" The general perception about people who make performances, or make any art, is often that we 'choose' an idea and then we 'make' that idea. But the reality is that, actually, you have very little choice, you are going to make the thing you are going to make. This was something that Rosemary Butcher taught me a long time ago. You may find one way or another to make it, but basically that's the piece that you have in you and the job that you have is to uncover that, or discover it. And once you begin to uncover it or discover it, you have to follow what it wants."
